    We invite applications for the post of Head Counsellor which has arisen in our Kericho Operations.

     

    The Position

    Reporting to the Company Medical Officer and working closely with the Welfare team, the job holder will coordinate the provision of counselling services to company employees and their families.

     

    Responsibilities

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Responsible for coordination and provision of counseling services with the company, including both administrative and clinical supervision of other counselors.

    • Play a crucial role in developing and implementing counseling programs and services.

    • Assessing the needs and designing appropriate interventions.

    • Evaluate the effectiveness of the counseling program and make necessary adjustments.

    • Offering counseling services to employees and their dependants as may be required.

    • Coordinating clients’ referrals to other community support structures as may be necessary.

    • Ensuring that proper documentation and record-keeping procedures are followed. This includes maintaining client files, keeping confidential records, and generating reports as required.

    • Liaising with KCP in the maintenance of professionalism in the practice

    • Upholds ethical and legal standards in the practice of counseling.

    • Collaborating with other professionals, such as teachers, administrators, parents, and community members, to provide comprehensive support to students or clients. He/she may coordinate referrals to external resources or services when necessary.

    • Assisting the Welfare team in creating awareness and coming up with strategies for managing substance and drug abuse within the company’s villages and schools.

    • As a champion, support other counselors through training and empowerment programs.

    • Offering guidance and support to employees living with disabilities in the company.

    • Promoting and participating in HIV and AIDS testing and prevention programs

    • Support conflict resolution efforts among employees and their dependants.

    • Prepare psychosocial external and internal training for medical, counseling, and welfare staff.

    • Taking a lead in programs aimed at the financial, social, and emotional wellness of employees.

    • Developing capacity of the counseling, medical, welfare teams, and committees on psychological support.

    • Preparing and submitting monthly reports to the Company Medical Officer and HR Director.

     

    Minimum requirements: 

    • Degree in counseling or psychology. A Master’s in counseling psychology or Clinical Psychology will be an added advantage.

    • Five years of relevant experience in a senior position

    • Registration with KCPA

    • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant statutes including the Mental Health Act, Children’s Act, Persons with Disabilities Act, Sexual Offences Act, Counselors and Psychologists Act, Employment Act, and other Kenyan laws with respect to child/family welfare and child protection.

    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

    • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)

    • Good organizing and planning skills with good interpersonal skills

    • Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision.

    • Must be a team player.
