Purpose
Objective 1: Support 3 – 5 Network Coordinators and 1 FYO to successfully manage their networks of 15-20 Village Based Advisors (per network), in line with seasonal program targets and milestones
Key activities & responsibilities to achieve in this objective:
- Understand seasonal targets for program(s) that fund the networks
- Be able to support the Program Coordinators in effectively assigning the relevant activities and quantitative targets to each Network supervised
- Track the NCs’ and FYO’s performance against their targets and support Network Coordinators to maintain track of their own performance against these targets
- Regularly visit, coach, spot check and give feedback to each NC and FYO and visit several VBAs (rotationally, so as to meet all of the NCs and FYOs regularly every month, and to meet every VBA in each network over one or two seasons) about activities carried out and progress against targets
- Alert Program coordinators proactively where progress is not on track to reach set targets, work with these counterparts and other FIPS managers as needed to identify the problem and resolve it to ensure overall program success
Objective 2: Support NCs to select and manage VBAs to be self-supporting entrepreneurs and to follow the FIPS approach (house to house, inclusive, small packs, multi-technology)
Key activities & responsibilities to achieve in this objective:
- In coordination with Program Coordinator, have input into the development of business models that apply to VBAs’ activities (profit-making)
- Together with the Program Coordinators, oversee NCs’ planning, implementing and supervising VBA trainings on the application of these profit-making models to their activities
- Through management of NCs’ reporting, track and report on the implementation of these models by VBAs, the success of VBA businesses, and any challenges that may arise that limit their success
- Support NCs to act as linkage and “hubs” between VBAs and suppliers – trustworthy contacts who can manage the development and expansion of successful credit relationships with suppliers on behalf of a network of effective “retailers” (VBAs) of inputs needed by farmers
- Help NCs to create farmer demand for relevant inputs by supporting field days and mother-demo-linked promotional activities by VBAs, in conjunction with FIPS (Program Coordinators, with supplier companies
- Maintain active relationship with Ministry of Agriculture Extension Officers at County and Ward level, for ongoing training and support); including sharing relevant monthly reports on VBA activities with the Extension Officers.
Objective 3: Tracking and reporting on VBA activities and results/impact at Cluster level, against Theory of Change
Key activities & responsibilities to achieve in this objective:
- Understand the FIPS Theory of Change and how the field areas the MNC supervises are intended to bring about change and impact, and how it will be measured
- Understand and train NCs and VBAs on the use of the FIPS Logbook, reporting forms and procedures
- Maintain own tracking records and ensure that NCs maintain tracking records using the tools in the Network Coordinator Management Binder and also approve timesheet on NetSuite

- Submit monthly reports on VBA activities (summarized) to the Program Coordinator on time, following up on any gaps (VBAs who have not reported)
- Respond to requests and instruction from Program Coordinator, and FIPS office staff or management, for provision of reports, data or other information or records of network activities
- Maintain records of trainings of VBAs, demonstration plots, multiplication/seed repayment agreements, and any other activities undertaken in the network
- Cooperate with and actively engage with Field Monitoring Officers from FIPS to get up to date performance feedback from their spot-checking activities
Role Requirements:
Diploma in a related field (Agriculture or similar)
1+ year experience with FIPS- Africa as a NC in good standing is required
Understanding of local agro-ecology and agricultural practices
Experience in farming (practical and direct Technical agricultural skills (various areas may be relevant and useful
Basics of supervision of a team (competency with administering schedules, leave planning and tracking, and noticing and flagging performance concerns)
