Job Purpose
The Food Service Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily food service operations within the school to ensure meals are prepared and served safely, on time, and to the required standards. The role involves supervising kitchen and service staff, maintaining hygiene and food safety standards, and ensuring a positive dining experience for students and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Supervision
- Supervise daily kitchen and food service operations within the school
- Ensure meals are prepared and served according to the approved menu and schedule
- Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation
- Coordinate food preparation and service times to align with school routines
Staff Supervision
- Supervise kitchen assistants, cooks, and serving staff
- Allocate daily duties and manage staff attendance and timekeeping
- Provide on the job guidance and support to food service staff
- Report staff performance issues, absenteeism, and disciplinary matters to management
Food Safety and Hygiene
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards
- Enforce proper use of protective clothing and equipment
- Ensure cleanliness of the kitchen, storage areas, and dining areas
- Monitor safe food storage, handling, and waste disposal practices
Compliance and Records
- Maintain basic records such as attendance, cleaning schedules, and stock usage
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and school regulations
- Support inspections by school administration or public health officers
Stock and Supplies
- Monitor food stock levels and report shortages in good time
- Assist in receiving and checking food supplies for quality and quantity
- Minimise food wastage through proper planning and supervision
Student Care and Conduct
- Promote respectful and orderly behaviour during meal service
- Ensure special dietary requirements or allergies are followed where applicable
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment for students during meal times
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate or Diploma in Food Production, Catering, Hospitality, or a related field
- At least 2 to 3 years’ experience in food service, catering, or institutional kitchens
- Prior supervisory experience will be an added advantage
- Valid food handling or food safety certificate
Skills and Competencies
